We had a major downpour here in Southern New Hampshire on Saturday, with upwards of 10 inches of rain in some places. Fortunately, not only is this a drop in the bucket compared to New Orleans... it wasn't really bad at all in here Nashua. My house isn't on a flood plain, and it's on some of the highest ground in town as a matter of fact. I've had a history of water problems in the basement over the past 20 years due to unfortunate grading and poor construction, but I've put plenty of work into fixing them over the years and we stayed dry -- except for about four inches of water pooled in the driveway at one point due to the fact that it slopes slightly toward the house and the drainage system doesn't work all that efficiently even when it isn't all clogged up with leaves. A little bit of pumping took care of it easily.

My wife and I were in New England, September 26 - October 4. Just a little too early for the fall color. But, we had great weather. So, I feel better, now.
