Well, the Show 'n Tell Thursday idea is now pretty well established. lots of great tips have been posted and will surely continue to be posted. Recently, I've been thinking about what can be done to make SnTT more valuable to the overall community, and in the process I formulated three related questions:
How do we get high quality tips to rise up in the search engine rankings so that people looking for answers to specific questions will find the relevant SnTT posts?
How do we encourage posting of a few more tips of higher quality?
How do we give a tiny bit of recognition to the best tips and to the people who have put the effort into writing them up?
The answer to the first question is: links, links, links. There are lots of SnTT posts. Many of them can be found in Technorati, and many are linked from the SnTT aggregator I built. Occasionally I see a link posted to one of the tips, but not that often. What I'd like to do is encourage a little bit more of that linking because of the positive effect it has on search engine rankings, and in the process why not give a little recognition to the authors of some of the best tips posted?
And, so, here's my proposal: let's do occasional rounds of nominations and ballots for the The Unofficial Lotus Domino Blog Community Show 'n Tell Awards. First we'd come up with a set of award categories, announce them and set up a schedule for seeking nominations and voting on one award category at a time. Nominations, would be tracked in one place, but they would be posted in the blogs of the nominators. Multiple nominations of the same tip would be fine -- the more links, the better for the search engines. By doing just one category at a time, and scheduling plenty of lag time in between announcement and nominations and final vote, we'll have a relaxed and un-rushed pace so we won't spread ourselves thin trying to do too much to promote too many great posted tips at once. I'm figuring that the pace would be slow enough that by the time Lotusphere comes around, we might have selected award winners in three or four categories. Taking it slowly might also encourage a few people to post a tip or two that might fit the category that they might otherwise have not gotten around to posting, in the hopes of getting a nomination.
So, what about prizes? In all probability... none. A large Notes customer once bought drinks and desserts for contributors to the LNOTES-L mailing list who showed up at the Fireworks Factory on the Saturday night before Lotusphere, but I wouldn't count on even that. Maybe we'll drink a toast to the winners at ESPN on the day before Lotusphere. It's really all about the links, and maybe a little about the the glory, such as it is.
So, what do you think? No nominations now, by the way. Not even suggestions of categories. Just let me know what you think about the general idea. If there is enough interest, I'll start another thread for the categories. Maybe I'll also start one for a better name than "The Unofficial Lotus Domino Blog Community Show 'n Tell Awards".

I love SnTT and have been tempted to post some tips, but I don't want to start my own blog just for this.
Is there another way to post SnTT tips than through your own blog/website?

Rich, that sounds like a superb idea. There are several tips which I'd like to nominate so I'll put together a list and post them when I have a moment.
@Patrick M - I would guess that pretty much any of the bloggers would be happy for you to post on their site, but the most obvious group blogging site would be http://www.yellowisthenewblack.com which I believe Rich actually runs as well.

Excellent idea! And I'm not just saying that because I've got a few tips out there.
@1 - I'm sure yellowisthenewblack will host for you, but I could do that for you also. Mine is not a very high-volume site though.

I think the virtual pat on the back will be quite a sufficient reward - I'm not aware of anybody making SnTT posts in search of prizes. Maybe we could come up with some sort of "honor roll" on yellowisthenewblack and/or dominoblogs.com, and a blog badge for winners.

Great idea! Julian and I covered two SnTT posts on Episode 28 of the podcast. We plan on including random ones on future podcasts.

@1 Patrick: I am certainly willing to set you up as a guest blogger in Yellow Is The New Black. It wasn't the original intent of that blog to be doing tips there, but why not? Things change. Posting volume there has gone down -- which was predictable, really.
