As reported by Ed, IBM has committed to Lotusphere at the Dolphin & Swan until 2015.

What does that mean? Presumably, it means that there's a signed contract in place, very likely with some penalty clauses attached to it if either side cancels. I can't imagine that the penalties for canceling 7 years out would be that significant, but really it's the symbolism that matters here.

It will be Lotusphere 22, folks. Lotus will be celebrating the 30th anniversary of the start of development of Notes, and the 25th anniversary of the first release. I repeat: it will be Lotusphere Twenty Two..

I can't think of any other event, or even any other reasonably distant place that I've visited twenty two years in a row. Excluding the homes of relatives who haven't moved in that long, can you think of any?

Will I be there? I can't say, but I really hope so. After attending 15 consecutitve conferences, it's getting to the point where I almost can't even imagine not attending. I honestly don't know what I'd do, or how I'd react, if one of these years I just can't go. Maybe I'd just go on without really feeling any differently, but somehow I doubt that will be the case.

Assuming I'm there, assuming that I've maintained my perfect attendance record, and assuming that I spend an average of 7 days in Orlando for each conference (which is about right, to date),then my trips to Lotusphere will have consumed about 5 months of my life. And no.... I don't even want to think about how much money I will have spent on my attendance, not to mention the family activities that were included in several of these trips.

Assuming any of the attendees who wore Bob Balaban's "15" badges this year are there in 2015, and that we've maintained our perfect attendance records, it will mean that twenty one years and one month will have passed since we attended the first conference in December 1993. If we find each other and set aside a few minutes to lift a glass in a toast to our ongoing common interest and friendship, the conference itself would be old enough to share a drink with us!

They should give full attendance attendees a free pass for the 21st - like a travel gold card
